Tips to Avoid Scammers
Corkin was created to provide a safer environment for buyers and sellers to conduct business. The following tips will help you make an informed decision as to whether or not you should be doing business with someone.
- Check the User’s SafetyRanking – If the user has a questionable ranking it’s a pretty good sign you should not be conducting business with them.
- Don’t Post Your Personal Information – Have potential buyers contact you on your Corkin account. That way you can check the persons ranking before hand and if there is any suspicious activity you can report and we have a record of who the person is and can assist you in reporting them to the FBI. Dont share your email address with people you dont know.
- Don’t Provide Your Personal Information – Scammers typically ask for your personal info, example below:
- Name
- Full Address
- Email
- City
- State
- Country
- Zipcode
- Cell/Office/Home Phone Number
- Corkin is NOT Involved In Any Transaction – We do not handle payments, guarantee transactions, provide escrow services, or offer "buyer protection" or "seller certification".
- Fake Cashier Checks & Money Orders Are COMMON – And if the bank discovers it is a fake they may hold YOU responsible. Scammers also will send you a fake Cashiers Check or Money Order for more than the amount discussed and request that you mail them the difference- DON’T CASH THESE CHECKS
- Never Give Out Financial Information- Bank Account number, Social Security number, Pin number, Paypal/Ebay info etc.) If you would like to receive payment prior to providing goods we suggest that you create a PayPal account and post a link to for payment on your listing.
- Deal With Users in the US –The vast majority of Scammers state that they are overseas, provide inconsistent information regarding their location, and/or try to involve a local third party to ship goods to. 9.99 times of 10 this person is a Scammer.
Who Can You Notify of Fraud or Scam Attempt
If you suspect that a listing posted or a user on Corkin may be part of a scam, please email Abuse|@|Corkin.com. Be sure to include the listing ID or the UserID or just copy of URL (web address).
